What’s NVDisplay.Container.exe (NVIDIA Container)? Is it safe or a virus?

In a couple years Nvidia went for being known for graphics cards, to possibly being even better known for AI. Interesting isn't it? At our SpyShelter Cybersecurity Labs here in Austin, Texas we use several PCs with Nvidia hardware and their software is known to be safe. What exactly does this Nvidia Container do for your PC?

This program operates as a container for NVIDIA display drivers and is critical for the proper functioning of NVIDIA graphics hardware. It allows users to customize and adjust display settings, such as resolution, refresh rate, and color profiles.

But, if this software is by NVIDIA then why is it signed by Microsoft? That's because Microsoft checks certain drivers and Window system tools and signs them with its own "hardware compatibility" certificate. In this case Microsoft has signed this NVIDIA software for that reason.

What does it mean if someone is the publisher of a PC .exe (executable or process)?

The publisher of an executable is the entity responsible for its distribution and authenticity. Most processes/executables on your PC should be signed. The signature on the executable should have been verified through a third party whose job it is to make sure the entity is who it says it is. Find an unsigned executable? You should consider scanning any completely unsigned .exe on your PC.
