What’s MetaGeek App.exe (MetaGeek App)? Is it safe or a virus?

MetaGeek App.exe is the main executable for the MetaGeek App, a Wi‑Fi packet and spectrum analysis tool by Dechnia, LLC (formerly MetaGeek). This app combines the best of MetaGeek’s past tools—Chanalyzer, Eye P.A., and inSSIDer—into a single utility that captures and analyzes Wi‑Fi traffic in real time.

It runs in the background or foreground to interface with Wi‑Spy spectrum analyzers or supported Wi‑Fi adapters. The executable is responsible for live packet capture, visualizing network events, managing analyzers, and exporting pcap files for deeper inspection.

Seeing MetaGeek App.exe from publisher Dechnia LLC is expected if you’ve installed the official MetaGeek App.

What does it mean if someone is the publisher of a PC .exe (executable or process)?

The publisher of an executable is the entity responsible for its distribution and authenticity. Most processes/executables on your PC should be signed. The signature on the executable should have been verified through a third party whose job it is to make sure the entity is who it says it is. Find an unsigned executable? You should consider scanning any completely unsigned .exe on your PC.
