What’s HealthService.exe (Microsoft Monitoring Agent Service)? Is it safe or a virus?

HealthService.exe is a process developed by Microsoft Corporation as part of the System Center Operations Manager.

It's responsible for collecting and monitoring health data from various servers and applications on Windows PCs.

I spent a lot of time searching the Microsoft website to find out exactly what this executable does, and I found many posts about it crashing or using high CPU, but no exact description from Microsoft about what it does exactly. But, from its description it seems logical it is an agent monitor of some sort, and I could confirm it works in conjunction with the System Center Operations Manager software.

SCOM "System Center Operations Manager " is a set of tools in Microsoft's System Center for infrastructure monitoring and application performance management.
